Education by Teaching Analytical Chemistry in Romania

Synthesis and electrochemical properties of Zn3V3O8 as novel anode material

Zn₃V₃O₈ two-dimensional micro sheets are successfully synthesized by combination of solvothermal method and heat treatment. The Zn₃V₃O₈ has better electrochemical performances after calcinations.

Teaching of process analytical chemistry

In the teaching of analytical chemistry for chemical engineering students it is essential today to teach the chemical analysis of dynamic systems, not only in the process control of the modern technological systems, where the control of composition or structure of different material streams is necessary, but also in all other instances where analysis, decision and intervention follow each other, forming a closed cycle. Teaching can be made effective if students already have a knowledge of the basic disciplines (including analytical chemistry). The schedule of the teaching programme should include the mathematical statistical treatment of process signals, quality of the signals, signal-improvement methods, characteristics of instruments, calibration and an introduction to sensors, analysers suitable for continuous or periodical measurements and local area networks. As practical exercizes an apparatus for investigation of the dynamic properties of a thermoanalytical detector system, a computer program for simulating process variables and the control loop including the measuring system are presented.     

Preparation of the Speech-LanguagePathologist Specializing in Voice: An Educational Survey

This study investigates the academic and clinical preparation a speech-language pathologist receives in the area of voice. The purpose is to determine how to structure continuing education and specialty training in vocology, defined as the science and practice of voice habilitation. Surveys were sent to the graduate programs in speech-language pathology accredited by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) in 1994, and again in 1999. Results from the 1994 survey indicated that students received limited information and clinical experience in handling typical voice cases. Although most programs required a voice disorders course, fewer mandated coursework in normal voice production or clinical experience with voice patients. The follow-up survey showed that the educational environment in 1999 is similar to that in 1994. It is evident that the programs are in compliance with the Educational Training Board model developed by ASHA for basic clinical competence, but no structure for specialty training has yet emerged.     

Gaining insight into student satisfaction using comprehensible data mining techniques

As a consequence of the heightened competition on the education market, the management of educational institutions often attempts to collect information on what drives student satisfaction by e.g. organizing large scale surveys amongst the student population. Until now, this source of potentially very valuable information remains largely untapped. In this study, we address this issue by investigating the applicability of different data mining techniques to identify the main drivers of student satisfaction in two business education institutions. In the end, the resulting models are to be used by the management to support the strategic decision making process. Hence, the aspect of model comprehensibility is considered to be at least equally important as model performance. It is found that data mining techniques are able to select a surprisingly small number of constructs that require attention in order to manage student satisfaction.     

Metaphor as a possible pathway to more formal understanding of the definition of sequence convergence

This study presents how the introduction of a metaphor for sequence convergence constituted an experientially real context in which an undergraduate real analysis student developed a property-based definition of sequence convergence. I use elements from Zandieh and Rasmussen's (2010) Defining as a Mathematical Activity framework to trace the transformation of the student's conception from a non-standard, personal concept definition rooted in the metaphor to a concept definition for sequence convergence compatible with the standard definition. This account of the development of the definition of sequence convergence differs from prior research in the sense that it began neither with examples or visual notions, nor with the statement of the formal definition. This study contributes to the Realistic Mathematics Education literature as it documents a student's progression through the definition-of and definition-for stages of mathematical activity in an interactive lecture classroom context.     

高分子材料分析与测试课程设计与教学改革

介绍黎明职业大学高分子材料加工技术专业的核心课程《高分子材料分析与测试》的课程设计和教学改革的做法。课程以实现学生向"准员工"的转变为教学目标。通过对行业企业进行调研,确定该课程的对接岗位为质量检验岗位,工作内容为化验、质检和品管,基于岗位工作内容进行课程设计。采用项目化方式,三个工作内容分别对应以典型方法、典型产品和典型常识为项目进行模块设计。以模块任务为中心,将教师的"讲"与学生的"练"有机结合起来,综合应用提倡学生互教的交互培训法、引导学生自主学习的主题探究法、锻炼学生专业素质的四阶段技能训练法等教学方法。     

Phonon relaxation and heat conduction in one-dimensional Fermi-Pasta-Ulam β lattices by molecular dynamics simulations

The phonon relaxation and heat conduction in one-dimensional Fermi-Pasta-Ulam (FPU) β lattices are studied by using molecular dynamics simulations.The phonon relaxation rate,which dominates the length dependence of the FPU β lattice,is first calculated from the energy autocorrelation function for different modes at various temperatures through equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations.We find that the relaxation rate as a function of wave number k is proportional to k 1.688,which leads to a N 0.41 divergence of the thermal conductivity in the framework of Green-Kubo relation.This is also in good agreement with the data obtained by non-equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations which estimate the length dependence exponent of the thermal conductivity as 0.415.Our results confirm the N 2/5 divergence in one-dimensional FPU β lattices.The effects of the heat flux on the thermal conductivity are also studied by imposing different temperature differences on the two ends of the lattices.We find that the thermal conductivity is insensitive to the heat flux under our simulation conditions.It implies that the linear response theory is applicable towards the heat conduction in one-dimensional FPU β lattices.
